Safeguarding policy

The standards every tutor, parent, student, and member of staff agrees to. We treat this as the most important page on the site.

Our commitment

Every child using Tutorviq has the right to learn somewhere safe, respectful, and right for their age. That comes before everything else for us: before money, before speed, before convenience.

Designated safeguarding lead

Our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) is reachable at safeguarding@tutorviq.com 24/7. Out-of-hours messages are read within two hours by the on-call team. For genuine emergencies in the UK call 999; in Nigeria call 112 or the LASEMA hotline 767.

What every tutor agrees to

  • Hold a current Enhanced DBS (UK) or Nigeria Police Criminal Records Check, renewed every 24 months.
  • Conduct every session in the platform’s video classroom. No calls on personal phones, no off-platform messaging apps, and no in-person meetings without parent consent and a public venue.
  • Accept that a parent can join any lesson to watch it live, at any time, without warning. Lessons are not recorded.
  • Report any safeguarding concern about a student to the DSL the same day, even if it seems trivial.

What parents and students can expect

  • Visibility. Every booked lesson, every homework submission, every message with a tutor and every conversation with Ene shows up on the parent’s account, and a parent can join any lesson to watch it live. Nothing is hidden behind a tutor’s account.
  • Predictable behaviour. Tutors are trained to keep conversations educational. They don’t share personal contact details, don’t accept gifts, don’t promise rewards outside the platform.
  • Reporting. Email safeguarding@tutorviq.com with the lesson and what happened. It goes straight to the DSL. We respond within 24 hours.

How we respond to a concern

  1. Triage within two hours by the on-call team (out of hours) or the DSL (working hours).
  2. Tutor suspended pending review if the concern relates to tutor conduct. Suspension means no new bookings and existing bookings are paused.
  3. Investigation using lesson attendance, messages, homework, Ene conversations and (where consented) interviews with the family. Lessons are not recorded, so we cannot replay one. Typically completes within 7 days.
  4. Action. Outcomes range from coaching feedback (for low-severity issues) to immediate, permanent removal from the platform and reporting to police where the law requires it.
  5. Refunds and support to move on. The family gets whatever works best: another tutor, a refund, or credit toward future sessions.

The Ene AI tutor

Ene is an AI study tutor, set up to help with schoolwork. It is not a counsellor and it can be wrong. Every conversation is kept on the student’s account, and a linked parent can read it at any time. If a child tells Ene something worrying, please tell us at safeguarding@tutorviq.com.

What we collect about children, which AI companies process it and how a parent can see or delete it is in the children and young people part of our privacy policy.

Whistleblowing

Anyone, whether a parent, student, tutor, or member of staff, can raise a safeguarding concern anonymously by emailing safeguarding@tutorviq.com from any address. We won’t try to identify anonymous reporters, and we won’t retaliate against anyone who reports something in good faith.

Review

This policy is reviewed every 12 months by the DSL and the Tutorviq board. The current version was published October 2026.
