Terms of service
The agreement between you and Tutorviq Ltd. Plain-English summary at the top, the actual terms below.
Last updated 12 October 2026
The plain-English version
- Use the platform for tutoring. Don’t try to move conversations off-platform to dodge fees, don’t impersonate anyone, don’t harass anyone.
- We hold your payment until the lesson is taught, and you get a say before the tutor is paid. If something went wrong, report it from the lesson and our team looks at it.
- Lessons are not recorded. A linked parent can join any lesson to watch it live.
- The AI tutor is not a substitute for actual help with a child in distress. If something is genuinely wrong, please call a human.
- If something goes wrong, we’d rather refund than fight. Email hello@tutorviq.com, or safeguarding@tutorviq.com for anything about a child’s safety.
1. Who you’re contracting with
Tutorviq Ltd, registered in England and Wales, company number ##### (registration completes Q3 2026), registered office 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ.
2. Eligibility
You must be 18+ to hold an account. Children under 18 use the platform under a parent or guardian account. Children under 13 cannot have a personal account at all; the parent owns it.
3. Booking, escrow, and refunds
When you book a lesson, you pay by card through Stripe (GBP) or Paystack (NGN), or from your Tutorviq wallet, and we hold the money. After the lesson, we check with our video provider how long the tutor and the student were in the lesson at the same time. If it was most of the booked lesson, you then have time to confirm the lesson or report a problem from the lesson page, which shows exactly when the time ends. Confirming pays the tutor straight away; if we hear nothing, the tutor is paid when the time ends. If you report a problem, or the tutor did not turn up, the lesson was cut short, or nobody joined, nothing is paid out: our team reviews the lesson and either pays the tutor or refunds the full price to your Tutorviq wallet. If you cannot make a lesson, cancel it from the lesson page. If you cancel at least 24 hours before it starts, the full price goes back to your Tutorviq wallet straight away. Later than that, the tutor may have turned down other lessons for that time, so our team looks at it and decides whether to refund you or pay the tutor. If the tutor cancels, you always get the full price back. Once a lesson has started it cannot be cancelled; report a problem from the lesson instead.
4. Tutor conduct
Tutors agree to a separate Educator Agreement covering DBS / NCRC clearance, professional conduct, and parents’ right to watch any lesson live. A breach is grounds for removal from the platform and forfeit of any unpaid balance.
5. The Ene AI tutor
Ene is an AI assistant. Its responses are generated by third-party models (Anthropic’s Claude by default, and OpenAI for Ene Live voice calls and as a backup) and may occasionally be wrong or incomplete. Don’t use Ene as a sole source of truth for exam preparation. Don’t share genuinely sensitive personal information with it; we filter what we can but no AI is foolproof.
6. Payments and payouts
Parents pay in their local currency (GBP for UK, NGN for NG). The price is fixed when you book. Tutors receive the price minus our platform fee, into their Tutorviq earnings. They can withdraw their earnings to their bank in their own currency whenever they are over the minimum shown on their earnings page; our team checks each withdrawal before it is sent.
7. Intellectual property
You own what you create: homework, notes, and written submissions. Tutors own their teaching materials. We get a worldwide, royalty-free licence to host and stream it on the platform for as long as it’s there.
8. Account suspension and termination
We can suspend an account for safeguarding reasons immediately. For any other reason, we give 30 days’ notice. You can close your account any time by emailing hello@tutorviq.com from the address on your account; money held for lessons not yet taught is refunded within 14 days.
9. Limitation of liability
Our liability for any session is capped at the price of that session. We don’t accept liability for academic outcomes. The grade your child achieves depends on a hundred things outside our control. We’re confident in our tutors; we can’t be confident about every individual outcome.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes go to the courts of England and Wales unless you’re resident in Nigeria, in which case Nigerian courts have jurisdiction over disputes about Nigerian transactions.
11. Changes
When we change these terms, we’ll email account holders at least 14 days before the change takes effect. The previous version stays available at /legal/terms-archive for the 14-day window.
